Removal and Installation

Removal

All vehicles
CAUTION:
CAUTION:If the brake fluid is spilt on the paintwork, the affected areas must be immediately washed down with cold water.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.
  1. Remove the air cleaner. For additional information, refer to Section  303-12 Intake Air Distribution and Filtering.

  1. Remove the engine compartment noise reduction panel.

  1. Disconnect the low fluid warning switch electrical connection.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:It will be necessary to carry out this process on both sides in order to completely drain the brake fluid reservoir.
    Drain the brake fluid reservoir.
    1. Connect one end of a suitable piece of clear plastic pipe to the bleed nipple and place the other end into a suitable container.
    1. Loosen the bleed nipple.
    1. Depress and release the brake pedal until all of the brake fluid is drained from the brake fluid reservoir.
    1. Tighten the bleed nipple.
Vehicles with manual transmission

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Cap the clutch master cylinder hose to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress.
    Disconnect the clutch master cylinder hose from the brake fluid reservoir.
All vehicles

  1. Remove the brake fluid reservoir.
    • Discard the seals.

Installation

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new brake fluid reservoir seals.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Bleed the brake system. For additional information, refer to Section  206-00 Brake System - General Information.
