Removal

  1. Remove the transaxle oil filler tube plug.
    • Remove and discard the plastic snap ring.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Remove the engine undershield.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:If an internal transaxle concern is suspected, drain the fluid through a paper filter. A small amount of metal or friction particles may be found from normal wear. However, if excessive metal and friction particles are present, a detailed inspection of the transaxle will be required.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:After the fluid has been drained, clean the drain plug threads.
    Drain the transmission fluid.
    1. Remove the drain plug.
    1. Remove the overflow tube.
    • Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
    • Discard the gasket.

  1. Remove the transaxle fluid pan.
    1. Remove the bolts.
    1. Remove the spacer sleeve.
    1. Remove the gasket.
    1. Remove the filter from the transaxle case.
    • Clean all parts.
    • Discard the gasket.

  1. Remove the oil filter gasket.
    • Discard the gasket.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not damage the conductor foil.
    Remove the conductor foil.
    • Remove the bolt.
    • Using the special tool, disconnect the conductor foil electrical connectors.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not damage the manual valve which remains in the main control valve body.
    Remove the main control valve bolts in a diagonal sequence.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not disassemble the main control valve body.
    Remove the main control valve body.
    1. Remove the manual valve retaining clip.
    1. Lift the main control valve body and disconnect the manual valve link.
    • Discard the clip.

Installation

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Identification of the manual control valve body.
    Check the identification of the manual control valve body to the transaxle.
    For additional information, refer to Specifications in this section.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new manual valve retaining clip.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new manual valve detent lever retaining bolt.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install the manual valve detent lever retaining bolt finger tight.
    Install the manual valve link.
    1. Position the manual valve with the flat side downwards.
    1. Install the manual valve.
    1. Install the manual valve detent lever retaining bolt.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Tighten the bolts working diagonally.
    Install the main control valve body.

  1. Adjust the manual valve link.
    1. Move the manual valve detent lever assembly to the "P" (park) position.
    1. Move the manual valve link in conjunction with the manual valve to the stop position in the main control valve body.
      NOTE:
      NOTE:Hold the manual valve detent lever in arrow direction.
    1. Tighten the manual valve link retaining bolt.

  1. Install the conductor foil assembly.
    1. Connect the electrical connectors.
    1. Install the retaining bolt.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new oil filter gasket.
    Install the oil filter gasket.

  1. Install the oil filter.

  1. Install the filler neck.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new fluid pan gasket.
    Install the fluid pan assembly.
    1. Install the spacer sleeves.
    1. Install the gasket
    1. Install the permanent magnet.
    1. Install the sump.
    1. Install the sump retaining bolts.
    1. Install the overflow pipe.
    1. Install the oil drain plug.
  1. Add 3 liters of automatic transmission fluid into the filler neck.
  1. Start the engine and move the selector lever through all of the ranges, allowing sufficient time for each position to engage.
    • Engage the selector lever in the ""P” (park) position.
  1. Check the transmission fluid level.

  1. Install the engine undershield.
  1. Lower the Vehicle.
