Remove the transaxle oil filler tube plug. - Remove and discard the plastic snap ring.

Remove the engine undershield. | | -
NOTE:If an internal transaxle concern is suspected, drain the fluid through a paper filter. A small amount of metal or friction particles may be found from normal wear. However, if excessive metal and friction particles are present, a detailed inspection of the transaxle will be required. NOTE:After the fluid has been drained, clean the drain plug threads. Drain the transmission fluid. - Remove the drain plug.
- Remove the overflow tube.
- Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.

Remove the transaxle fluid pan. - Remove the bolts.
- Remove the spacer sleeve.
- Remove the gasket.
- Remove the filter from the transaxle case.

Remove the oil filter gasket. | | -
NOTE:Do not damage the conductor foil. Remove the conductor foil. - Using the special tool, disconnect the conductor foil electrical connectors.

NOTE:Do not damage the manual valve which remains in the main control valve body. Remove the main control valve bolts in a diagonal sequence. | | -
CAUTION:Do not disassemble the main control valve body. Remove the main control valve body. - Remove the manual valve retaining clip.
- Lift the main control valve body and disconnect the manual valve link.

NOTE:Identification of the manual control valve body. Check the identification of the manual control valve body to the transaxle. For additional information, refer to Specifications in this section. | | -
NOTE:Install a new manual valve retaining clip. NOTE:Install a new manual valve detent lever retaining bolt. NOTE:Install the manual valve detent lever retaining bolt finger tight. Install the manual valve link. - Position the manual valve with the flat side downwards.
- Install the manual valve.
- Install the manual valve detent lever retaining bolt.

NOTE:Tighten the bolts working diagonally. Install the main control valve body. | | -
Adjust the manual valve link. - Move the manual valve detent lever assembly to the "P" (park) position.
- Move the manual valve link in conjunction with the manual valve to the stop position in the main control valve body.
NOTE:Hold the manual valve detent lever in arrow direction. - Tighten the manual valve link retaining bolt.

Install the conductor foil assembly. - Connect the electrical connectors.
- Install the retaining bolt.

NOTE:Install a new oil filter gasket. Install the oil filter gasket. | | -
NOTE:Install a new fluid pan gasket. Install the fluid pan assembly. - Install the spacer sleeves.
- Install the gasket
- Install the permanent magnet.
- Install the sump.
- Install the sump retaining bolts.
- Install the overflow pipe.
- Install the oil drain plug.

Start the engine and move the selector lever through all of the ranges, allowing sufficient time for each position to engage. - Engage the selector lever in the ""P” (park) position.

Install the engine undershield. | | |
