Diagnosis and Testing

Principles of Operation

The information and message center has the following functions when the ignition is in position II.

  • Driving time
  • Instantaneous fuel consumption
  • Average fuel consumption
  • Distance travelled
  • Average speed
  • Outside air temperature
  • Service internals

There are two types of warning messages that can appear in the information and message center.

  • Warning message
  • Danger message

Warning Message

The following warning messages can be displayed in the information and message center.

  • OIL PRESS. STOP MOTOR
  • BRAKE FLUID
  • BRAKE FAULT
  • CHECK COOLANT

Danger Message

The following danger messages can be displayed in the information and message center.

  • HANDBRAKE ON
  • FASTEN SEAT BELT
  • CHECK BRAKE PADS
  • PLEASE REFUEL
  • TOP UP WASH FLUID
  • ALTERNATOR WORKSHOP
  • AIRBAG FAULT
  • OIL SENSOR WORKSHOP

The following danger messages can be displayed if a high series information and message center is fitted to the vehicle. A vehicle symbol will be displayed in the information and message center with the appropriate door/compartment shown open.

  • DRIVERS DOOR OPEN
  • REAR LEFT DOOR OPEN
  • REAR RIGHT DOOR OPEN
  • PASSENGER DOOR OPEN
  • LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT

Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

  • Washer fluid level
  • Door adjustment
  • Fuse(s)
  • Bulb(s)
  • Light emitting diode(s) (LED(s))
  • Wiring harness
  • Electrical connector(s)
  • Switch(es)
  • Sensor(s)
  • Instrument cluster
  • Instrument cluster printed circuit
  1. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  1. If the cause is not visually evident, verify the symptom and refer to WDS to diagnose the system.
