Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Remove the transaxle drain plug and drain the transmission fluid.
  1. Remove the RH halfshaft and intermediate shaft. For additional information, refer to Section 205-04 Front Drive Halfshafts.
  1. If equipped, remove the power takeoff (PTO). For additional information, refer to Section 308-07A Four-Wheel Drive SystemsSection 308-07B Transfer Case.

  1. If the vehicle is equipped with a PTO, use the special tools to remove the RH differential seal.

  1. If the vehicle is not equipped with a PTO, use the special tools to remove the RH differential seal.

Installation
  1. If the vehicle is equipped with a PTO, use the special tools to install the RH differential seal.

  1. If the vehicle is not equipped with a PTO, use the special tools to install the RH differential seal.
  1. If equipped, install the PTO. For additional information, refer to Section 308-07A Four-Wheel Drive SystemsSection 308-07B Transfer Case.
  1. Install the RH halfshaft. For additional information, refer to Section 205-04 Front Drive Halfshafts.

  1. Using a small amount of thread sealant on the threads, install the transaxle drain plug.
    • Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
  1. Fill the transaxle with clean automatic transmission fluid.
  1. Start the engine and run through all the gears and check fluid level.
