  1. Lubricate the torque converter pilot hub with grease.
  1. Rotate the torque converter to place the paint daub in the 6 o'clock position.

  1. Install the special tool.

  1. Position the transaxle in place.

  1. Once the transaxle is in place, prior to bolting it to the engine, remove the special tool.

  1. Move the transaxle assembly toward the engine assembly and install the bolt.
    • Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

  1. Install the transaxle retaining bolt.
    • Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

  1. Install the lower transaxle retaining bolts.
    • Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

  1. Install the 4 new torque converter nuts.
    • Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

  1. Install the rubber access cover.

  1. Install the transmission fluid cooler tube.
    • Tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).

  1. Install the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (10 lb-ft).

  1. Install the fluid cooler tube.
    1. Connect the OSS sensor.
    1. Connect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor (white connector).
    1. Install the fluid cooler tube.
      • 1. Tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).

    1. Install the fluid cooler bolt.
      • 1. Tighten to 13 Nm (10 lb-ft).

  1. Install the starter motor isolator.

  1. Install the starter motor.
    • Tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).

  1. Install the wire harness clip retainer and the ground wire to the starter bolts.
    • Tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).

  1. If installing a new or remanufactured transaxle, install the lower rear mount bracket.
    • Tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).

  1. Install the LH upper transaxle mount assembly.
    1. Install the 4 nuts for the bracket.
      • 1. Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

    1. Install the through bolt.
      • 1. Tighten to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).

  1. Remove the special tools.

  1. Remove the special tools.

  1. Remove the special tools.

  1. Install the upper transaxle bolts.
    • Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

  1. Connect the transmission range (TR) sensor electrical connector.

  1. Connect the shift cable to the manual lever.

  1. Install the shift cable bracket, ground wires and plug in the bulkhead electrical connector.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:If installing an exchange transaxle, the digital TR sensor must be aligned.
    Using the special tool, align the digital TR sensor.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

  1. Install the rear transaxle mount center bolt.
    • Tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).
  1. If the vehicle is not equipped with a power takeoff (PTO), install the dampener.

  1. Install the PTO assembly.
    • Tighten to 45 Nm (33 lb-ft).

  1. If equipped with a PTO, install the driveshaft.
    • Tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).

  1. Install the bracket.
    • Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

  1. Install the front bolts on the exhaust-to-engine bracket.
    • Tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).

  1. Install the nuts on the rear of the exhaust-to-engine bracket.
    • Tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).

  1. Install the intermediate shaft.

  1. Install the intermediate shaft retaining nuts.
    • Tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).

  1. Install the RH halfshaft and lower control arm bolts.
    1. Install the lower control arm bolt.
      • 1. Tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).

    1. Install the lower control arm bolt.
      • 1. Tighten to 200 Nm (148 lb-ft).

  1. Install the LH halfshaft into the wheel knuckle and install a new nut.
    • Tighten to 290 Nm (214 lb-ft).

  1. Install the cross brace and the rear nut.
    • Tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).

  1. Install the 2 bolts for the brace.
    • Tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).

  1. Install the bolt for the mount.
    • Tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).

  1. Install the cross brace and the 4 bolts.
    • Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

  1. Install the LH splash shield and the 7 retainers.

  1. Install the RH splash shield and the 7 retainers.

  1. Install the vent tube to the fluid level indicator.

  1. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Before installing the battery tray, check the vent tube hose for any obstructions, kinks or incorrect routing position.
    Install the battery tray. For additional information, refer to Section 414-00 Charging System - General Information.
  1. Fill the transaxle with clean automatic transmission fluid.
  1. Check the fluid level and correct as necessary.
