Description and Operation

The warning chime sounds to remind the driver to turn the headlamps off when exiting the vehicle, remove the ignition key when exiting the vehicle, close the doors after starting the vehicle, to move the shift lever to the PARK position when exiting the vehicle, or that a fault is present in the airbag warning indicator circuit. The instrument cluster controls the warning chime function. The instrument cluster uses various inputs to determine when to sound the warning chime. The warning chime sounds if the headlamps have been left on with the ignition OFF and the driver door is ajar, the key is in the ignition with the ignition OFF and the driver door is ajar, the transmission is not in the PARK position and the driver door is ajar, a door is ajar while the key is in the RUN position and a secondary airbag warning chime request is received from the restraint control module (RCM). Also a "tic-tock" chime will sound when the turn or hazard signal is on. An overspeed warning chime will sound if the vehicle speed is over 120 km/h (75 mph).
