CALIBRATIONS: All With 3.8L EEC IV

WARNING:

This modification is authorized only for the listed engines. Performing this modification on other engine calibrations is unauthorized and
could create liability under applicable federal or local laws.

Engine speed increases that occur because the Idle Speed Control motor shaft extends to maximum position can be caused by high resistance in
marker/park lamp splices (S1003 and S1004) of the 14290 wire harness. The high resistance may result in heat that can
melt the insulation on adjacent wires in the harness and cause a short circuit to the wire (circuit #347) that connects to pin 10 of the E.C.A. (processor).
The short circuit tells the processor that the air conditioner clutch is engaged and the processor causes the ISC to extend to the maximum high idle speed.

The suspect wire harness with the brass-crimp splice can be found inside the plastic conduit that runs along the top/front side of the radiator. (See Figure
4). Inspect the condition of the wire harness and repair as necessary. Repairs can be made by soldering in new sections of wire (use rosin core solder
only) and wrap with electrical tape.
