Description and Operation The load leveling control unit is a self contained suspension unit. The energy required for leveling is generated by the relative movement between the axle and the body that is created when the vehicle is driven. The unit is completely self contained and self energized. The unit automatically levels and controls the height of the vehicle. The unit levels laden vehicles by using the suspension movement between the axle and the body to pump hydraulic fluid from a reservoir to a high pressure gas accumulator. The increase in the gas pressure increases the force developed by the unit between the axle and the body, thereby providing vehicle leveling. Vehicle leveling is accomplished after driving for 1,000 to 4,100 m. When the load is removed from the vehicle, the vehicle automatically returns to the correct height. The load leveling control unit can be installed in place of and in the same manner as a conventional suspension unit. |
