Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Expander, Teflon Seal

Removal

CAUTION:
CAUTION:Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  1. Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to Section  303-05 Accessory Drive.

  1. Disconnect the pipe union and the hose from the power steering pump.
    1. Remove the pipe clamp bracket retaining bolt.
    1. Disconnect the power steering pipe union.
    • Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
    1. Disconnect the power steering hose.

  1. Remove the engine cover.

  1. Using the special tools, support the engine.

  1. Remove the engine mount bracket.
    1. Unclip the ignition lead clamp.
    1. Remove the retaining nuts.

  1. Detach the coolant expansion tank.
    1. Remove the retaining bolts.
    1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
    • Position the tank to one side.

  1. Remove the engine mount.

  1. Remove the power steering pump pulley.
    1. Hold the center of the pulley with an Allen key.
    1. Remove the pulley retaining bolts.

  1. Remove the power steering pump.
    1. Remove the pump pipe bracket retaining bolt.
    1. Remove the retaining plate nuts.
    1. Remove the retaining plate bolts.
    1. Remove the pump retaining bolts.
    1. Remove the retaining plate.
    1. Remove the pump.

  1. Disconnect the power steering pipe.

Installation

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:If installing a new steering gear assembly the unions that are supplied fitted to the new steering gear should be removed and saved for future use.
    Using the special tool, install a new O-ring seal.
    1. Push the new O-ring seal onto the tool.
    1. Locate the tool on the union and push on the new O-ring seal.

  1. Install the components in reverse order.

  1. Bleed the power steering system. For additional information, refer to Section  211-00 Steering System - General Information.
