Engine - 2.5L - Exhaust Manifold LH Mondeo 1997 (08/1996-09/2000)
In-vehicle Repair

Removal

  1. Standard preparatory measures
    • Make a note of the radio keycode.
    • Make a note of the pre-set radio stations.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Disconnect the battery earth lead.
    Remove the engine cover.

  1. Disconnect the plug for the left-hand heated oxygen sensor (HO2S).
  1. Raise the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Detach the engine undershield (if equipped).

  1. Detach the lower radiator cover.

  1. Detach the front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter.

  1. Remove the center bolt for the left-hand engine roll restrictor.

  1. Detach the right-hand engine roll restrictor from the subframe.

  1. Swivel the engine to the right as far as it will go.
    • Secure the engine in this position by inserting a suitable wooden wedge into the left-hand engine roll restrictor.

  1. Remove the left-hand HO2S sensor.

  1. Detach the left-hand exhaust manifold (shown on an engine removed from the vehicle).

Installation
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Tightening sequence.
    Attach the left-hand exhaust manifold using a new gasket and new nuts.

  1. Install the left-hand HO2S sensor.

  1. Remove the wooden wedge from the left-hand engine roll restrictor.

  1. Screw the center bolt into the left-hand engine roll restrictor.

  1. Attach the right-hand engine roll restrictor to the subframe.

  1. Install the front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter using new nuts and seals.

  1. Fit the lower radiator cover.

  1. Install the engine undershield (if equipped).

  1. Connect the plug for the left-hand HO2S sensor.

  1. Install the engine cover.
    • Clip on the positive crankcase ventilation hose.
  1. Standard finishing operations.
    • Connect the battery earth lead.
    • Enter the radio keycode.
    • Reprogram the pre-set radio stations.
    • Reset the clock.
