Cylinder Head > < Timing Belt
Engine - Vehicles Built From: 05/1998 1.6L/1.8L/2.0L - Exhaust Manifold Mondeo 1997 (08/1996-09/2000)
In-vehicle Repair

Removal

  1. Remove the heat shield.
    1. Unscrew the upper bolts.
    • Take out the coolant hose bracket.
    1. Detach the bracket for the air conditioning pipe.
    1. Remove the lower bolts.

  1. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) plug.

  1. Detach the exhaust pipe and the EGR pipe (if equipped) from the exhaust manifold.

  1. Detach the EGR pipe bracket (if equipped).

  1. Undo the EGR pipe at the EGR valve and detach the EGR pipe bracket (if equipped).

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Always allow the engine to cool down before working on aluminium components.
    Detach the exhaust manifold.
    • Unscrew the nuts.
    • Discard the gasket.

Installation

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not work on the mating face with coarse grinding materials.
    Attach the exhaust manifold.

  1. Tighten the EGR pipe at the EGR valve and attach the EGR pipe bracket (if equipped).

  1. Attach the EGR pipe bracket (if equipped).

  1. Attach the exhaust pipe and the EGR pipe(if equipped) to the exhaust manifold using a new gasket.

  1. Connect the HO2S plug.

  1. Install the heat shield.
    • Insert the oil dipstick tube, and position the coolant hose bracket and the engine lifting eye.
    1. Screw in the upper bolts.
    1. Attach the bracket to the air conditioning line.
    1. Install the lower bolts.
