Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.

  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.
    • Disconnect the intake air bypass hose.
    • Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hoses.
    • Detach the air cleaner outlet pipe retaining clips.

  1. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector.

  1. Remove the air cleaner housing.
    • Detach the upper secondary air cleaner intake pipe from the air cleaner.
  1. Remove the battery. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.

  1. Remove the battery tray.
    • Remove the retaining clips.

  1. Remove the upper secondary air cleaner intake pipe retaining bolt and position the upper secondary air cleaner intake pipe to one side.

  1. Disconnect the ignition switch and battery to starter motor solenoid cables.

  1. Remove the starter motor retaining bolts.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Care must be taken to remove the starter motor through the coolant hose. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the coolant hose.
    Remove the starter motor.

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Initialize the door window motors. For additional information, refer to Section  501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms.
