Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Remover/Installer, Cooling Hose Clamp

303-397 (24-003)

Removal

Vehicles with 4-speed automatic transaxle or 5-speed manual transaxle
  1. Remove the EGR valve.
    For additional information, refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve - Vehicles With: Manual Transaxle in this section.
    .
Vehicles with 5-speed automatic transaxle or 6-speed manual transaxle
  1. Remove the EGR cooler to EGR valve tube.
    For additional information, refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Cooler to EGR Valve Tube - in this section.
All vehicles
  1. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Section  303-03 Engine Cooling.
  1. Remove the catalytic converter. For additional information, refer to Section  309-00 Exhaust System.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Using the special tool, disconnect the EGR cooler coolant hose from the thermostat housing.

  1. Using the special tool, disconnect the coolant hose from the EGR cooler.

  1. Remove the EGR cooler retaining nut and bolts.

  1. Remove the EGR cooler.
    • Discard the gasket.

  1. Remove the coolant hose from the EGR cooler.

Installation

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new EGR cooler gasket.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Initialize the door window motors. For additional information, refer to Section  501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms.
