Removal and Installation

Removal

  1.  
    • Necessary removal and installation work:
    • Rocker Panel
      Refer to: Rocker Panel (501-29 Side Panel Sheet Metal Repairs, Removal and Installation).
    • A-Pillar Outer Panel / A-Pillar Reinforcement
      Refer to: A-Pillar Assembly (501-29 Side Panel Sheet Metal Repairs, Removal and Installation).
    • B-Pillar / B-Pillar Reinforcement
      Refer to: B-Pillar and Reinforcement (501-29 Side Panel Sheet Metal Repairs, Removal and Installation).
    • Reposition the carpeting and the wiring harness away from the working area.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE: Depending upon the cut locations A-Pillar or B-Pillar must not be removed!
    • Rocker Panel Reinforcement
    • Rocker panel reinforcement cut lines options.

    • Rocker Panel Reinforcement Front
    • Mill out the spot welds.

  1.  
    • Rocker Panel Reinforcement Rear
    • Mill out the spot welds.

    • Rocker Panel Reinforcement Front
    • Heat the bonded area (approx. 170 °C) at the A-Pillar.

Installation

  • Before resistance spot welding of body panels with a total panel thickness of 3 mm and greater, the welding equipment instructions contained in sub-section 501-25 must be followed.
  • Sealer or adhesive must not be applied in welding zones. Areas which were bonded or sealed needs to be thoroughly sealed afterwards.

    • Preparation of the Rocker Panel Reinforcement
    • Drill holes for puddle welding (Ø 10 mm).

    • Rocker Panel Reinforcement Front
    • Apply PU glass adhesive.

    • Rocker Panel Reinforcement Rear
    • NOTE:
      NOTE:The final welded joint is made with the rocker panel installed.
      Resistance spot weld.
    • 1) Puddle weld.

      Resistance spot weld.
