Mustang V8-302 5.0L COBRA (1995)
Seat Belt: Description and Operation
Coupe
Driver Side, Front
The lap / shoulder safety belt webbing is attached to a retractor which is located on the quarter panel.
-
The retractor is designed to let the webbing freely move in or out except during vehicle hard braking, hard cornering or impacts of approximately
8 km/h (5 mph) or more.
-
The retractor is automatically locked by a mechanically-actuated inertia sensor.
-
The front safety belt retractor also has a belt-sensitive locking feature that will lock up if the belt is pulled quickly.
NOTE: Depending on the forward or rearward position of the seat, the webbing may or may not pass through the guide on the seat back.
-
The webbing then passes through a guide on the B-pillar behind the occupant's shoulder which directs the webbing at the proper downward angle
though a guide on the seat back, over the occupant's shoulder and chest to the lap belt buckle.
-
The safety belt has a tongue that latches to front safety belt buckle. The webbing continues through the tongue outboard to the sill below door
opening. The webbing then acts as a lap belt.
-
The front buckle is routed along the side of the seat and is anchored to the front floor pan.
-
Attaching the tongue and buckle secures the occupant with both lower and upper restraints. This attachment of the tongue and buckle can be
accomplished by a single continuous movement.
Rear Safety Belt
For both rear seating positions of the coupe and for both rear seating positions of the convertible, the lap/shoulder safety belt retractors are equipped
with a dual locking mode feature for the shoulder belt portion of the combination lap/shoulder safety belt.
-
The lap/shoulder safety belt is attached to a retractor which is mounted to the quarter panel for the coupe and in the luggage compartment for the
convertible.
-
The safety belt is routed through a guide that directs the webbing at the proper angle over the occupant's shoulder and chest to lap belt buckle.
-
The belt has a slip tongue that latches to the lap belt buckle and continues through the slip tongue outboard to the floor and acts as a lap belt.
