Pilot Bearing: Service and Repair

REMOVAL 

1. Remove transmission.
2. Remove clutch pressure plate and clutch disc.
3. Pull the pilot bearing from the crankshaft using Puller T58L-101-B.

INSTALLATION 

1. Coat the input shaft bushing bore in the crankshaft with a small quantity of Premium Long Life Grease XG-1-C or XG-1-K or equivalent meeting

Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B. Avoid using too much lubricant as it may be thrown on the clutch disc when the clutch revolves.

2. Carefully tap with a hammer to drive the pilot bearing squarely into the bore until the pilot bearing is located in the crankshaft. Be sure the needle

pilot bearing is not damaged or repositioned in the adapter collar.

NOTE:  Care must be taken not to damage pilot bearing during transmission installation while transmission input shaft is being inserted in pilot
bearing.

3. Install clutch pressure plate and clutch disc.
4. Install transmission.
