Wheel Bearing: Service and Repair
Rear
NOTE: The hub/wheel bearing is not serviceable and must be replaced as an assembly.
1.
Raise and support vehicle.
2.
Remove rear wheel, then carefully raise staked portion of spindle locknut.
3.
Remove and discard spindle locknut. When loosening locknut, lock hub by applying service brakes.
CAUTION: The retaining nut must not be reused.
4.
Remove brake drum or disc brake caliper and rotor.
5.
Remove hub/wheel bearing assembly from vehicle.
6.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque the new spindle locknut to 130-174 ft lb.
b. Stake spindle locknut at spindle indentation.
