Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Lever, Wheel Knuckle

Removal

All Vehicles
  1. Loosen the front wheel nuts.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.
  1. Remove the front wheel.
Vehicles with anti-lock brakes

  1. Detach the anti-lock braking system (ABS) sensor cable from the connecting link.

  1. Detach the ABS sensor cable from the crossmember.
All Vehicles

  1. Detach the stabilizer bar connecting link and the flexible brake hose from the suspension unit.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Secure the caliper and anchor plate assembly out of the way to prevent damage to the flexible brake hose.
    Detach the caliper and anchor plate assembly.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Protect the ball joint seal using a soft cloth to prevent damage.
    Detach the lower arm ball joint.
    1. Remove the bolt.
    1. Detach the lower arm ball joint.

  1. Remove the wheel knuckle to suspension unit pinch bolt.

  1. Remove the wheel knuckle from the suspension unit.
    1. Insert the special tool and rotate through 90 degrees.
    1. Remove the wheel knuckle.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Use an Allen key to prevent the piston rod from rotating.
    Remove the suspension unit top mount nut.
    1. Remove the cover, (if equipped).
    1. Remove the nut.

  1. Remove the suspension unit.

Installation

All Vehicles

  1. Position the suspension unit.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Use an Allen key to prevent the piston rod from rotating.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not fully tighten the suspension unit top mount nut.
    Install the suspension unit top mount nut.

  1. Install the wheel knuckle to the suspension unit.
    1. Install the special tool and rotate through 90 degrees.
    1. Install the wheel knuckle.

  1. Install the wheel knuckle to suspension unit pinch bolt.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure a heatshield is installed to prevent damage to the ball joint.
    Install the heatshield.

  1. Install the lower arm to the wheel knuckle.

  1. Install the stabilizer bar connecting link and the flexible brake hose bracket to the suspension unit.
Vehicles with anti-lock brakes

  1. Install the ABS sensor cable to the crossmember.

  1. Install the ABS sensor cable to the connecting link.
All Vehicles
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Tighten the suspension top mounting nut.
    1. Tighten the nut.
    1. Install the cover (if equipped).
  1. Check the front wheel alignment. For additional information, refer to Section  204-00 Suspension System - General Information.
