Hydraulic Brake Actuation - Brake Pedal Cross-Shaft—RHD Puma 1998 (06/1997-12/2001)
Removal and Installation

Removal

CAUTION:
CAUTION:If brake fluid is spilt on the paintwork the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure the brake fluid reservoir filler cap does not become contaminated.
    Remove the brake fluid reservoir filler cap.
    1. Disconnect the low brake fluid warning switch electrical connector.
    1. Remove the filler cap.

  1. Drain the brake fluid reservoir.
    1. Connect a bleed tube from the front right-hand bleed nipple to a suitable container.
    1. Loosen the bleed nipple and continue to depress the brake pedal until all the brake fluid is displaced.
    1. Tighten the bleed nipple.
    • Carry out the same procedure on the left-hand side.

  1. Disconnect the clutch feed line.

  1. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the accelerator pedal.

  1. Move the accelerator pedal to the right.
    1. Remove the retaining clip.
    1. Move the accelerator pedal to the right.

  1. Remove the brake pedal cross-shaft actuator rod clip.

  1. Remove the brake pedal cross-shaft mounting bracket nuts.

  1. Detach the brake pedal cross-shaft mounting bracket.
    1. Pull the bracket from the bulkhead.
    1. Move the brake pedal cross-shaft to the left.
  1. Remove the brake booster. For additional information, refer to Section  206-07 Power Brake Actuation.

  1. Detension the connecting link spring.
    • Unhook the spring from the rod.

  1. Detach the coolant expansion tank (one screw and clip).
    • Secure the tank to one side.

  1. Remove the brake pedal cross-shaft from the bulkhead
    • Rotate the connecting link in a counterclockwise direction to remove.

  1. Remove the brake pedal cross-shaft from the brake booster support bracket.

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Bleed the brake system. For additional information, refer to Section  206-00 Brake System - General Information.
