Wheel Speed Sensor: Description and Operation
Rear Anti-Lock Brakes (RABS)
The speed sensor is a coil mounted on the rear axle housing. The speed sensor ring is mounted on the ring gear in the differently and rotates close to the
speed sensor. As it rotates, the speed sensor ring magnetically induces an AC voltage into the speed sensor. The AC voltage is proportional to the rear
wheel speed and is used by the anti-lock electronic control module to determine the rate of deceleration of the rear wheels.
