Removal and Installation

Removal

All Vehicles

  1. Loosen the handbrake cable (one nut).
  1. Loosen the wheel nuts, raise the vehicle and remove the rear road wheels.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:If the outer dust cap is damaged during removal the cap must be renewed.
    Remove the outer dust cap.

  1. Remove the hub retaining nut.

  1. Remove the hub and drum assembly.
Vehicles fitted with ABS only

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The ABS sensor ring must not be refitted. Once removed, it must be discarded and renewed.
    Remove the ABS sensor ring.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Take care not to damage the hub bore when removing the hub seal.
    Remove the hub seal.

  1. Remove the bearings.

  1. Using a suitable internal extractor, remove the outer bearing cups.

  1. Using a suitable extractor, remove the inner bearing cup.
  1. Thoroughly clean the hub assembly.

Installation

All Vehicles

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The tapered self setting roller type rear bearings run in matched cups, (cups and bearings must be from the same supplier).
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The bearings are self setting on assembly and therefore require no subsequent Service adjustment.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:When refitting the new cups make sure that the cups abut their respective shoulders.
    Fit the new bearing cups.
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Grease the bearing before fitting.
    Fit the new inner bearing.

  1. Fit the new hub seal.
Vehicles fitted with ABS only

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that the ABS sensor ring teeth are not damaged when fitting and that the ring seats correctly on the hub shoulder.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:The ABS sensor ring must not be refitted. Once removed, it must be discarded and renewed.
    Fit the new ABS sensor ring.
    • Push the ABS sensor ring on using a suitable cylindrical tool.
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Grease the bearing before fitting.
    Fit the new outer bearing.
  1. Refit the hub and drum assembly.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Once tightened, the hub retaining nut must not be disturbed. If the torque needs to be checked the nut must be loosened by two full turns and re-tightened.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Rotate the hub when tightening the hub retaining nut.
    Refit the hub retaining nut.
  1. Refit the outer dust cap.

  1. Refit the rear road wheel, fit the wheel nuts, lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel nuts.
  1. Adjust the handbrake. For additional information, refer to Section  206-05 Parking Brake and Actuation.
