Parking Brake Cable: Service and Repair
Removal and Installation

Front

REMOVAL

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove cable tension. See: Tension Release
3. Disconnect front parking brake cable and conduit from parking brake intermediate cable at cable connector.
4. Remove cable snap-in front parking brake cable retainer from parking brake cable adjuster using a 13 mm 12-point box-end wrench to press

retaining prongs. Allow parking brake intermediate cable to hang.

5. Lower vehicle.
6. Remove cowl side trim panel.
7. Disconnect front parking brake cable and conduit from parking brake control at clevis.
8. Remove cable snap-in retainer from control assembly using a 13 mm 12-point box-end wrench to press retaining prongs.
9. Pull front parking brake cable and conduit and grommet up through front floor pan.

INSTALLATION

1. Start front parking brake cable and conduit through hole in front floor pan and secure grommet in place.
2. Push prong retainer into parking brake control until prongs are secure and connect front parking brake cable and conduit to control clevis.
3. Install cowl side trim panel.
4. Raise and support vehicle. Position front parking brake cable and conduit through front parking brake cable bracket and push prong into parking

brake cable bracket.

5. Connect parking brake intermediate cable to front parking brake cable and conduit connector.
6. Adjust parking brake cable. See: Adjustments/Initial Adjustment
7. Lower vehicle and retest brake system.

Intermediate

REMOVAL

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove cable tension. See: Tension Release
3. Disconnect parking brake intermediate cable from parking brake rear cable and conduit and front parking brake cable and conduit at cable

connector.

4. Remove cable snap-in retainer from parking brake cable adjuster and body bracket using a 13 mm 12-point box-end wrench to press retaining

prongs.

5. Remove front parking brake cable retainer for body side rails and rear crossmember by squeezing front parking brake cable retainer together with

needle-nose pliers between parking brake intermediate cable and crossmembers.

6. Remove parking brake intermediate cable.

INSTALLATION

1. Route parking brake intermediate cable and secure snap-in retainer to body bracket and parking brake cable adjuster by pushing retainer fully until

prongs are secure.

2. Connect cable ends to front parking brake cable and conduit and parking brake rear cable and conduit.
3. Secure cable front parking brake cable retainer to body side rail and crossmember by inserting front parking brake cable retainer fully into hole.
4. Adjust parking brake cable. See: Adjustments 
5. Lower vehicle and retest brake system.

Rear Disc

REMOVAL

1. Raise and support vehicle..
2. Remove cable tension. See: Tension Release
3. Disconnect rear front parking brake cable and conduit end from tensioner or parking brake intermediate cable/front parking brake cable at cable

connector.

4. Remove parking brake rear cable and conduit snap-in from inner floor side member bracket using a 13 mm 12-point box-end wrench to press

retaining prongs.

5. Disconnect parking brake rear cable and conduit end from caliper housing and remove cable from parking brake lever arm on caliper.
6. Remove front parking brake cable retainer from rear stabilizer bar.

INSTALLATION

1. Route parking brake rear cable and conduit and secure parking brake rear cable and conduit to rear disc brake caliper and frame bracket.
2. Connect parking brake rear cable and conduit end to tensioner or parking brake intermediate cable/ front parking brake cable and conduit at cable

connector.

3. Release tensioner.
4. Adjust parking brake cable. See: Adjustments
