Removal and Installation

Removal

All vehicles
CAUTION:
CAUTION:When removing or installing the instrument panel, care must be taken not to scratch or damage the instrument panel surface.
  1. Remove the passenger air bag module.
    For additional information, refer to: Passenger Air Bag Module (501-20B Supplemental Restraint System, Removal and Installation).

  1. Remove the glove compartment.
  1. Remove the air bag control module.
    For additional information, refer to: Air Bag Control Module (501-20B Supplemental Restraint System, Removal and Installation).

  1. Detach the air bag control module ground cable from the floor panel.

  1. Disconnect the parking brake warning indicator switch electrical connector.

  1. Detach the air bag control module wiring harness from the cross-vehicle beam.
  1. Remove the steering column.

  1. Remove the instrument cluster.
    For additional information, refer to: Instrument Cluster (413-01 Instrument Cluster, Removal and Installation).
  1. Remove the audio unit (if equipped).
    For additional information, refer to: Audio Unit - Vehicles Built Up To: 08/2006 (415-01A Audio Unit, Removal and Installation).

  1. Remove the A-pillar trim panels.
    • Release the clips.

  1. Remove the ashtray.
    • Release the retaining clips.

  1. Remove the ashtray housing.
    • Release the retaining clips.
Vehicles built up to 08/2006

  1. Remove the instrument panel center bezel upper retaining screws.

  1. Remove the instrument panel center bezel lower retaining screws.
Vehicles built 08/2006 onwards

  1. Remove the instrument panel center bezel retaining screws.
All vehicles

  1. Pull the instrument panel center bezel forwards and disconnect the electrical connectors.

  1. Detach the temperature and air distribution blend door bowden cables from the climate control assembly.

  1. Remove the instrument panel upper retaining screws.

  1. Detach the weatherstrip from the A-pillar on both sides.

  1. Remove the front scuff plate trim panel on both sides.
  1. Remove the left-hand front wheel and tire.

  1. Remove the left-hand front fender splash shield.

  1. Remove the engine main wiring harness electrical connectors cover.
    • Drill out the rivets.

  1. Disconnect the engine main wiring harness electrical connectors.

  1. Remove the engine main wiring harness electrical connectors trim panel.

  1. Detach the engine wiring harness electrical connectors from the fender.
    • Release the clips.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Detach the ground cable from the left-hand A-pillar.

  1. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the left-hand A-pillar.

  1. Disconnect the blower motor electrical connector.

  1. Disconnect the heater flap electrical connector.

  1. Disconnect the blower speed control electrical connector.

  1. Detach the ground cable from the right-hand A-pillar.

  1. Disconnect the electrical connector on the right-hand A-pillar.

  1. Disconnect the accelerator pedal electrical connector.

  1. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the pedal position switches.
    1. Speed control deactivation switch (if equipped).
    1. Stop lamp switch.
    1. Clutch position switch.

  1. Disconnect the heater control electrical connector.

  1. Remove the cross-vehicle beam lower retaining bolts.

  1. Remove the instrument panel side trim panel on both sides.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The cross-vehicle beam has three retaining bolts on the driver side and two retaining bolts on the passenger side.
    Remove the cross-vehicle beam side retaining bolts on both sides (driver side shown).

  1. Remove instrument panel side retaining bolt on the driver side.
    1. Remove the cover.
    1. Remove the bolt.
  1. Remove the instrument panel and cross-vehicle beam assembly.

  1. Remove the instrument panel outer retaining screws on both sides.

  1. Remove instrument panel reinforcement bracket retaining screws on the driver side.

  1. Remove instrument panel reinforcement bracket retaining screws on the passenger side.

  1. Remove the instrument panel from the cross-vehicle beam.

Installation

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:When installing the instrument panel onto the cross-vehicle beam, make sure that the heating ducts are correctly installed onto the vents.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
