Removal and Installation Removal All vehicles CAUTION:When removing or installing the instrument panel, care must be taken not to scratch or damage the instrument panel surface. | -
Remove the passenger air bag module. For additional information, refer to: Passenger Air Bag Module (501-20B Supplemental Restraint System, Removal and Installation). | | -
Remove the glove compartment. | | -
Remove the air bag control module. For additional information, refer to: Air Bag Control Module (501-20B Supplemental Restraint System, Removal and Installation). | | -
Detach the air bag control module ground cable from the floor panel. | | -
Disconnect the parking brake warning indicator switch electrical connector. | | -
Detach the air bag control module wiring harness from the cross-vehicle beam. | | -
Remove the steering column. For additional information, refer to: Steering Column (211-04 Steering Column, Removal and Installation). | | -
Remove the instrument cluster. For additional information, refer to: Instrument Cluster (413-01 Instrument Cluster, Removal and Installation). | | -
Remove the audio unit (if equipped). For additional information, refer to: Audio Unit - Vehicles Built Up To: 08/2006 (415-01A Audio Unit, Removal and Installation). | | -
Remove the A-pillar trim panels. | | -
Remove the ashtray. - Release the retaining clips.

Remove the ashtray housing. - Release the retaining clips.

Remove the instrument panel center bezel upper retaining screws. | | -
Remove the instrument panel center bezel lower retaining screws. | Vehicles built 08/2006 onwards | -
Remove the instrument panel center bezel retaining screws. | All vehicles | -
Pull the instrument panel center bezel forwards and disconnect the electrical connectors. | | -
Detach the temperature and air distribution blend door bowden cables from the climate control assembly. | | -
Remove the instrument panel upper retaining screws. | | -
Detach the weatherstrip from the A-pillar on both sides. | | -
Remove the front scuff plate trim panel on both sides. | | -
Remove the left-hand front wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation). | | -
Remove the left-hand front fender splash shield. | | -
Remove the engine main wiring harness electrical connectors cover. | | -
Disconnect the engine main wiring harness electrical connectors. | | -
Remove the engine main wiring harness electrical connectors trim panel. | | -
Detach the engine wiring harness electrical connectors from the fender. | | -
Detach the ground cable from the left-hand A-pillar. | | -
Disconnect the electrical connectors from the left-hand A-pillar. | | -
Disconnect the blower motor electrical connector. | | -
Disconnect the heater flap electrical connector. | | -
Disconnect the blower speed control electrical connector. | | -
Detach the ground cable from the right-hand A-pillar. | | -
Disconnect the electrical connector on the right-hand A-pillar. | | -
Disconnect the accelerator pedal electrical connector. | | -
Disconnect the electrical connectors from the pedal position switches. - Speed control deactivation switch (if equipped).
- Stop lamp switch.
- Clutch position switch.

Disconnect the heater control electrical connector. | | -
Remove the cross-vehicle beam lower retaining bolts. | | -
Remove the instrument panel side trim panel on both sides. | | -
NOTE:The cross-vehicle beam has three retaining bolts on the driver side and two retaining bolts on the passenger side. Remove the cross-vehicle beam side retaining bolts on both sides (driver side shown). | | -
Remove instrument panel side retaining bolt on the driver side. - Remove the cover.
- Remove the bolt.

Remove the instrument panel and cross-vehicle beam assembly. | | -
Remove the instrument panel outer retaining screws on both sides. | | -
Remove instrument panel reinforcement bracket retaining screws on the driver side. | | -
Remove instrument panel reinforcement bracket retaining screws on the passenger side. | | -
Remove the instrument panel from the cross-vehicle beam. | Installation | -
CAUTION:When installing the instrument panel onto the cross-vehicle beam, make sure that the heating ducts are correctly installed onto the vents. To install, reverse the removal procedure. | |
