NOTE:

The exhaust systems are of two‐piece construction for production, including the downpipe/catalytic converter, and three or four piece construction for service exhaust systems. However, for the purposes of this section only, we will be referring to the exhaust system as that portion starting from AFTER the downpipe/catalytic converter and in front of the centre muffler. The downpipe/catalytic converter will be referred to separately each time by its own name.

It is therefore necessary to cut the production exhaust to enable fitment of the service assembly.
Before cutting any part of the exhaust be sure to check the position of the cut is correct in comparison to the service sections to be renewed.

CAUTION:

The rubber insulators supporting the catalytic converter are constructed of a special material to cope with the high temperatures in this area. It is important, therefore, that these remain the correct specification and part number.

Remove

1. Disconnect the exhaust system from the downpipe/catalytic converter.
Discard the gasket and the flange nuts.

2. Remove the exhaust system.
Unhook the exhaust system from the centre and rear rubber insulators and remove the exhaust.
Install
3. Cut the exhaust pipe as specified to suit the model type and extent of renewal.
For correct cut points refer to the illustrations in Description and Operation.
4. Assemble the exhaust system.
   Loosely connect the exhaust components.

5. Install the exhaust system.
• Examine the rubber insulators for damage or fatigue.
• Align the exhaust system to the vehicle and locate into the rubber insulators.

6. Using a new gasket and two new nuts, fit the exhaust system to the downpipe/ catalytic converter and tighten the nuts.
Coat the studs with anti‐seize grease.
7. Check the alignment of the exhaust system and tighten any remaining joints.
