Raise and support the vehicle.

Remove the differential housing cover. - Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.

Loosen the differential bearing cap retaining bolts. | | | -
Remove the differential bearing adjusting nut locking bolts. | | | -
Tighten the differential bearing cap retaining bolts in three stages. - Stage 1: Tighten the bolts to 88 Nm.
- Stage 2: Loosen the bolts.
- Stage 3: Tighten the bolts to 20 Nm.

Position the plunger of the dial indicator gauge at right angles to one tooth (drive side) on the ring gear. | | | -
Using the special tools and the dial indicator gauge, adjust the ring gear backlash to 0.120 - 0.220 mm. - Tighten the adjusting nut on the ring gear side and slacken the opposing adjusting nut until a ring gear backlash of 0.120 - 0.220 mm is obtained.

NOTE:When adjusting the ring gear backlash, turn the adjusting nuts by even amounts. - Preload the differential bearings with the adjusting nut on the differential side and take measurements at four opposite points of the ring gear until the correct ring gear backlash is achieved.

Turn the drive pinion several times and repeat the previous steps. | | | -
Tighten the differential bearing cap retaining bolts. | | | -
Check the ring gear backlash again. | | | -
Install the differential bearing adjusting nut locking bolts. | | | -
NOTE:Install a new differential housing cover gasket. Install the differential housing cover. | | |
