Removal and Installation Removal All vehicles | -
NOTE:Make sure the road wheels are in the straight ahead position. Centralize the steering and lock it in position. | | -
Detach the steering column lower bearing from the bulkhead. | Left-hand drive vehicles with 2.3L engine | -
Remove the steering column flexible coupling heat shield. | All vehicles | -
Remove the steering column flexible coupling lower pinch bolt. | Vehicle built 01/2000 onwards All vehicles | -
Disconnect the steering column flexible coupling from the steering gear pinion. | | -
CAUTION:Leave the tie-rod end retaining nuts in place to protect the ball joint studs. Loosen the tie-rod end retaining nuts. | | -
CAUTION:Protect the ball joint seals using a soft cloth to prevent damage. Using a suitable two leg puller, detach the tie-rod ends from the wheel knuckles. - Release the tie-rod ends.
- Remove and discard the tie-rod end retaining nuts.

Detach the stabilizer bar connecting links from the lower arms (if equipped). | | -
Disconnect the power steering lines from the power steering gear. - Remove the bolt.
- Rotate the clamp plate.
- Detach the lines from the front axle crossmember.
- Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
- Discard the O-ring seals.

NOTE:Remove the steering gear through the driver side wheel arch. Remove the steering gear. | Installation All vehicles | -
Install the steering gear. | | -
CAUTION:Make sure the power steering lines are correctly located in the valve body. NOTE:Install new power steering line O-ring seals. Connect the power steering lines to the power steering gear. - Rotate the clamp plate.
- Install the bolt.
- Attach the lines to the front axle crossmember.

Attach the stabilizer bar connecting links to the lower arms (if equipped). | | -
WARNING:Install new tie-rod end retaining nuts. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury. Install the tie-rod ends to the wheel knuckles. | Vehicles built up to 12/1999 | -
WARNING:Install a new steering column flexible coupling lower pinch bolt. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury. NOTE:Make sure the wheel hubs are in the straight ahead position. Connect the steering column flexible coupling to the steering gear pinion. | Vehicles built 01/2000 onwards | -
WARNING:Install a new steering column flexible coupling lower pinch bolt. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury. NOTE:Make sure the wheel hubs are in the straight ahead position. NOTE:Make sure the circlip is correctly seated. Connect the steering column flexible coupling to the steering gear pinion. | Left-hand drive vehicles with 2.3L engine | -
Install the steering column flexible coupling heat shield. | All vehicles | -
Attach the steering column lower bearing to the bulkhead. | |
