Steering Column Switches - Steering Column Switches Transit 2000.5 (01/2000-05/2006)
Diagnosis and Testing

Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 700, for schematic and connector information.

Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

Visual Inspection Chart

Electrical
  • Fuse(s).
  • Wiring harness.
  • Electrical connector(s).
  • Switch(es).
  • Battery.
  1. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  1. If the cause is not visually evident, verify the symptom and refer to the Sympton Chart.

Pinpoint Test

NOTE:
NOTE:Use a digital multimeter for all electrical measurements.

PINPOINT TEST A : THE IGNITION SWITCH IS INOPERATIVE

TEST CONDITIONS DETAILS/RESULTS/ACTIONS
A1: CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR

Remove the steering column shrouds.
2
Check the ignition switch electrical connector.

Is the ignition switch electrical connector clean and secure?
Yes
No
CLEAN and SECURE the ignition switch electrical connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
A2: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON CIRCUIT 30-DD6 (GN/WH)

Disconnect Fuse 106 (30A).

Disconnect Ignition Switch C250.
3
Connect Fuse 106 (30A).

4
Measure the voltage between the ignition switch C250 Pin 4, circuit 30-DD6 (GN/WH) harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
VERIFY the customers concern.
No
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST B : NO POWER IN ACC

B1: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON CIRCUIT 30-DD6 (GN/WH)

Disconnect Fuse 106 (30A).

Disconnect Ignition Switch C250.
3
Connect Fuse 106 (30A).

Measure the voltage between the ignition switch C250 Pin 4, circuit 30-DD6 (GN/WH) harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
REPAIR circuit 74-DB1 (BU). REFER to Section  415-01 Audio Unit. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit 30-DD6 (GN/WH). TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST C : NO POWER IN RUN

C1: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON CIRCUIT 30-DD6 (GN/WH)

Disconnect Fuse 106 (30A).

Disconnect Ignition Switch C250.
3
Connect Fuse 106 (30A).

Measure the voltage between the ignition switch C250 Pin 4, circuit 30-DD6 (GN/WH) harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit 15-DB1 (BU). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the circuit 30-DD6 (GN/WH). TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST D : NO POWER IN START

D1: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON CIRCUIT 30-DD6 (GN/WH)

Disconnect Fuse 106 (30A).

Disconnect Ignition Switch C250.
3
Connect Fuse 106 (30A).

Measure the voltage between the ignition switch C250 pin 4, circuit 30-DD6 (GN/WH) harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
REPAIR circuit 50-DB1 (BU). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit 30-DD6 (GN/WH). TEST the system for normal operation.
