EGR vacuum regulator solenoid
All Vehicles
The EGR system recycles measured quantities of exhaust gas back through the engine where they mix with the incoming air/fuel charge. The powertrain control module (PCM) controls the vacuum regulator solenoid with grounding pulses. This regulates the amount and duration of the vacuum signal supplied to the EGR valve, therefore the valve lift and opening times are controlled.
Vehicles with Diesel Engine
On vehicles with a 90 PS, 100PS or 120 PS engine, the EGR system includes an EGR cooler. The EGR cooler is connected to the engine cooling system. The EGR cooler cools the recirculated exhaust gas, therefore lowering the combustion temperatures resulting in reduced tailpipe oxides of nitrogen (NOx) levels.
