Removal

Spacer, Subframe

General Equipment
Transmission jack
Two M10 x 60 mm locating studs

Removal

All vehicles
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
    For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that the road wheels are in straight ahead position.
    Centralize the steering and lock it in position.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
    For additional information, refer to: Jacking (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation) /
    Lifting (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).

  1. Remove the driveshaft center bearing retaining bolts.
    • Discard the bolts.
Vehicles built up to 10/2001

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Mark the position of the driveshaft flange in relation to the transmission output shaft flange.
    Detach the driveshaft from the transmission output shaft flange and position it to one side.
    • Discard the bolts.
Vehicles built 10/2001 onwards

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Mark the position of the driveshaft flange in relation to the transmission output shaft flange.
    Detach the driveshaft from the transmission output shaft flange and position it to one side.
    • Discard the bolts.
All vehicles

  1. Remove the steering column flexible coupling lower nut and bolt.
    • Discard the nut and the bolt.

  1. Release the circlip.
  1. Disconnect the steering column flexible coupling from the steering gear pinion.

  1. Detach the power steering lines from the front axle crossmember.

  1. Remove the transmission support insulator to front axle crossmember bolts.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:When using a two post lift.
    Support the engine with a wooden block.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:When using a four post lift.
    Using a suitable transmission jack, support the vehicle under the engine crossmember.

  1. Using a suitable transmission jack, support the front axle crossmember.

  1. Lower the front axle crossmember (left-hand side shown).
    • Remove the nuts and bolts.

  1. Install the special tool.

  1. Remove the hydraulic pressure unit (HPU) retaining nuts.

  1. Detach the clutch actuator from the transmission and position it to one side.

  1. Disconnect the reversing lamp switch electrical connector.

  1. Detach the heat shield and disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.

  1. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.

  1. Disconnect the input shaft speed (ISS) sensor electrical connector.
Vehicles with tachograph

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Vehicles built up to 10/2001 have a four bolt transmission output flange. Vehicles built 10/2001 onwards have a three bolt transmission output flange.
    Disconnect the tachograph sensor electrical connector.
All vehicles

  1. Remove the gearshift actuator cover.
    • Release the two clips.

  1. Detach the gearshift actuator from the transmission and position it to one side.

  1. Remove one transmission retaining bolt from the right-hand side and one from the left-hand side.

  1. Remove the remaining transmission retaining bolts from the left-hand side.

  1. Remove the remaining transmission retaining bolts from the right-hand side.
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not tilt the transmission during removal. This may cause damage to the pilot bearing.
    Remove the transmission.
