Removal and Installation

Removal

All vehicles

  1. Detach the catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section  100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

  1. Remove the engine undershield (if equipped).
Vehicles with 2.0L diesel engine

  1. Detach the catalytic converter from the support bracket.
All vehicles

  1. Detach the catalytic converter pipe from the muffler inlet pipe.
  1. Remove the catalytic converter.
    • Discard the gasket.

Installation

All vehicles
CAUTION:
CAUTION:Never use jointing compound forward of the catalytic converter.
NOTE:
NOTE:Install a new catalytic converter to exhaust manifold gasket.
  1. Coat the catalytic converter studs with anti-seize grease

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Align the nipple on the catalytic converter pipe with the slot on the muffler inlet pipe.
    Attach the catalytic converter pipe to the muffler inlet pipe.
Vehicles with 2.0L diesel engine

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure the catalytic converter is in its correct assembly position, with the catalytic converter inlet flange against the exhaust manifold, before tightening the support bracket bolts.
    Install the catalytic converter to the support bracket.
All vehicles

  1. Install the engine undershield (if equipped).
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Attach the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold.
