Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Disconnect Tool, Spring Lock Coupling 1/2 inch (blue)

412-027 (34-001)

Disconnect Tool, Spring Lock Coupling 5/8 inch (black)

412-038 (34-003)

Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.
  1. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Section  303-03 Engine Cooling.

  1. Disconnect the coolant hoses and the vacuum hoses from the heater core.
  1. Drain the air conditioning system. For additional information, refer to Section  412-00 Climate Control System - General Information.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Seal the refrigerant lines and evaporator with plugs.
    Using the special tools, disconnect the refrigerant lines from the evaporator core.
  1. Remove the instrument panel. For additional information, refer to Section  501-12 Instrument Panel and Console.

  1. Remove the lower heater core housing cover.
    • Remove three clips each side.

  1. Disconnect the vacuum line from the air inlet blend door actuator.

  1. Disconnect the air ducts from the heater core housing.

  1. Remove the heater core housing.
    • Disconnect the electrical connectors.

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
