Diagnosis and Testing

Refer to Wiring Diagrams Section 501-09, for schematic and connector information.

Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

PINPOINT TEST A : THE MIRRORS ARE INOPERATIVE

A1: CHECK THE INTERIOR LIGHT FUNCTION

CHECK the interior light function.

Does the interior light function operate correctly?
Yes
No
REPAIR circuit 29-LC2 (OG/BU). TEST the system for normal operation.
A2: CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH CIRCUIT 29-AD12 (OG/YE)

Disconnect Exterior Mirror Control Switch C2010.

Measure the voltage between the exterior mirror control switch C2010 pin 6, circuit 29-AD12 (OG/YE) harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
No
REPAIR circuit 29-AD12 (OG/YE). TEST the system for normal operation.
A3: CHECK CIRCUIT 31-AD12 (BK) FOR CONTINUITY

Measure the resistance between the exterior mirror control switch C2010 pin 4, circuit 31-AD12 (BK) harness side and ground.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
No
REPAIR circuit 31-AD12 (BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
A4: CHECK CIRCUIT 33-AD2 (YE/RD) FOR CONTINUITY

Disconnect Left-hand Exterior Mirror C2011.

Measure the resistance between the exterior mirror control switch C2010 pin 3, circuit 33-AD2 (YE/RD) harness side, and the left-hand exterior mirror C2011 pin 1, circuit 33-AD6 (YE), harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
VERIFY the customer concern.
No
REPAIR circuit 33-AD2 (YE/RD). TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST B : A SINGLE MIRROR IS INOPERATIVE

B1: CHECK CIRCUIT 33-AD9 (YE/GN) AND 33-AD6 (YE) FOR CONTINUITY

Disconnect Inoperative Exterior Mirror.

Measure the voltage between the inoperative exterior mirror C2011 pin 5, circuit 32-AD8 (WH/BU) and pin 1, circuit 33-AD6 (YE) harness side (left-hand exterior mirror) or C2012 pin 5, circuit 32-AD11 (WH/VT) and pin 1, circuit 33-AD9 (YE/GN) harness side (right-hand exterior mirror).
  • Operate the exterior mirror control switch in the DOWN position

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
INSTALL a new exterior mirror. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit 33-AD9 (YE/GN) or circuit 33-AD6 (YE). TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST C : A SINGLE MIRROR DOES NOT FUNCTION WITH SWITCH LOGIC

NOTE:
NOTE:If the left-hand exterior mirror up/down function is inoperative, GO to C1. If the left-hand exterior mirror left/right function is inoperative, GO to C4. If the right-hand exterior mirror up/down function is inoperative, GO to C7. If the right-hand exterior mirror left/right function is inoperative, GO to C10.

Disconnect Left-hand Exterior Mirror C2011.

Measure the voltage between the left-hand exterior mirror C2011 pin 5, circuit 32-AD8 (WH/BU) and pin 1, circuit 33-AD6 (YE) harness side.
  • OPERATE the exterior mirror control switch UP and DOWN.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the exterior mirror control switch is moved to the UP position and is the polarity reversed when moved to the DOWN position?
Yes
INSTALL a new left-hand exterior mirror. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
C2: CHECK CIRCUIT 32-AD8 (WH/BU) FOR CONTINUITY

Disconnect Exterior Mirror Control Switch C2010.

Measure the resistance between the exterior mirror control switch C2010 pin 7, circuit 32-AD8 (WH/BU) harness side, and the left-hand exterior mirror C2011 pin 5, circuit 32-AD8 (WH/BU) harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
No
REPAIR circuit 32-AD8 (WH/BU). TEST the system for normal operation.
C3: CHECK CIRCUIT 33-AD6 (YE) FOR CONTINUITY

Measure the resistance between the exterior mirror control switch C2010 pin 3, circuit 33-AD2 (YE/RD) harness side, and the left-hand exterior mirror C2011 pin 1, circuit 33-AD6 (YE) harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new left-hand exterior mirror. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit 33-AD6 (YE). TEST the system for normal operation.
C4: CHECK THE LEFT-HAND EXTERIOR MIRROR LEFT/RIGHT CIRCUIT

Disconnect Left-hand Exterior Mirror C2011.

Measure the voltage between the left-hand exterior mirror C2011 pin 4, circuit 32-AD7 (WH/RD) and pin 1, circuit 33-AD6 (YE) harness side.
  • OPERATE the exterior mirror control switch LEFT and RIGHT.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the exterior mirror control switch is moved to the LEFT position and is the polarity reversed when moved to the RIGHT position?
Yes
INSTALL a new left-hand exterior mirror. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
C5: CHECK CIRCUIT 32-AD7 (WH/RD) FOR CONTINUITY

Disconnect Exterior Mirror Control Switch C2010.

Measure the resistance between the exterior mirror control switch C2010 pin 1, circuit 32-AD7 (WH/RD) harness side, and the left-hand exterior mirror C2011 pin 4, circuit 32-AD7 (WH/RD) harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
No
REPAIR circuit 32-AD7 (WH/RD). TEST the system for normal operation.
C6: CHECK CIRCUIT 33-AD6 (YE) FOR CONTINUITY

Measure the resistance between the exterior mirror control switch C2010 pin 3, circuit 33-AD2 (YE/RD) harness side, and the left-hand exterior mirror C2011 pin 1, circuit 33-AD6 (YE) harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new left-hand exterior mirror. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit 33-AD6 (YE). TEST the system for normal operation.
C7: CHECK THE RIGHT-HAND EXTERIOR MIRROR UP/DOWN CIRCUIT
NOTE:
NOTE:The circuit numbers and wiring colors change at soldered joint S209.

Disconnect Right-hand Exterior Mirror C2012.

Measure the voltage between the right-hand exterior mirror C2012 pin 5, circuit 32-AD11 (WH/VT) and pin 1, circuit 33-AD9 (YE/GN) harness side.
  • OPERATE the exterior mirror control switch UP and DOWN.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the exterior mirror control switch is moved to the UP position and is the polarity reversed when moved to the DOWN position?
Yes
INSTALL a new right-hand exterior mirror. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
C8: CHECK CIRCUIT 32-AD11 (WH/VT) FOR CONTINUITY

Disconnect Exterior Mirror Control Switch C2010.

Measure the resistance between the exterior mirror control switch C2010 pin 5, circuit 32-AD11 (WH/VT) harness side, and the right-hand exterior mirror C2012 pin 5, circuit 32-AD11 (WH/VT) harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
No
REPAIR circuit 32-AD11 (WH/VT). TEST the system for normal operation.
C9: CHECK CIRCUIT 33-AD9 (YE/GN) FOR CONTINUITY

Measure the resistance between the exterior mirror control switch C2010 pin 3, circuit 33-AD2 (YE/RD) harness side, and the right-hand exterior mirror C2012 pin 1, circuit 33-AD9 (YE/GN) harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new right-hand exterior mirror. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit 33-AD9 (YE/GN). TEST the system for normal operation.
C10: CHECK THE RIGHT-HAND EXTERIOR MIRROR LEFT/RIGHT CIRCUIT

Disconnect Right-hand Exterior Mirror C2012.

Measure the voltage between the right-hand exterior mirror C2012 pin 4, circuit 32-AD10 (WH/BK) and pin 1, circuit 33-AD9 (YE/GN) harness side.
  • OPERATE the exterior mirror control switch LEFT and RIGHT.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the exterior mirror control switch is moved to the LEFT position and is the polarity reversed when moved to the RIGHT position?
Yes
INSTALL a new right-hand exterior mirror. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
C11: CHECK CIRCUIT 32-AD10 (WH/BK) FOR CONTINUITY

Disconnect Exterior Mirror Control Switch C2010.

Measure the resistance between the exterior mirror control switch C2010 pin 2, circuit 32-AD10 (WH/BK) harness side, and the right-hand exterior mirror C2012 pin 4, circuit 32-AD10 (WH/BK) harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
No
REPAIR circuit 32-AD10 (WH/BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
C12: CHECK CIRCUIT 33-AD9 (YE/GN) FOR CONTINUITY

Measure the resistance between the exterior mirror control switch C2010 pin 3, circuit 33-AD2 (YE/RD) harness side, and the right-hand exterior mirror C2012 pin 1, circuit 33-AD9 (YE/GN) harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms.?
Yes
INSTALL a new right-hand exterior mirror. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
