Seating - Seats Transit 2000.5 (01/2000-05/2006)
Diagnosis and Testing

Refer to Wiring Diagrams Section 501-10, for schematic and connector information.

Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

  1. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.

Pinpoint Tests

NOTE:
NOTE:Use a digital multimeter for all electrical measurements.

PINPOINT TEST A : THE HEATED SEATS ARE INOPERATIVE

NOTE:
NOTE:The heated seat system is powered through the D+ relay to prevent battery run-down. The engine must be running for the heated seats to operate.
TEST CONDITIONS DETAILS/RESULTS/ACTIONS
A1: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO FUSE 2.15 (20A)

Disconnect Fuse 2.15 (20A).

Ignition switch in position III.

Ignition switch in position II.

Measure the voltage between the input side of fuse 2.15 (20A) and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
No
A2: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE DRIVER HEATED SEAT SWITCH

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect Driver Heated Seat Switch C320.
3
Ignition switch in position III.

Ignition switch in position II.

Measure the voltage between the driver heated seat switch C320 pin 1, circuit 15-HC15 (GN/YE) and pin 2, circuit 15S-HC17 (GN/RD) harness side.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
VERIFY the customer concern.
No
A3: CHECK FOR SUPPLY VOLTAGE FROM THE BATTERY JUNCTION BOX (BJB)

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect D+ Relay C2044.

Measure the voltage between the D+ relay C2044, circuit 30-DD7 (RD/YE) BJB side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
REPAIR circuit 15-DD7 (GN/YE). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit 30-DD7 (RD/YE). TEST the system for normal operation.
A4: CHECK FOR SUPPLY VOLTAGE TO THE HEATED SEAT SWITCH

Measure the voltage between driver heated seat switch C320 pin 1, circuit 15-HC15 (GN/YE) harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
REPAIR circuit 13-DA13 (BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit 15-HC1 (GN/YE). TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST B : THE HEATED SEAT IS INOPERATIVE

NOTE:
NOTE:The heated seat system is powered through the D+ relay to prevent battery run-down. The engine must be running for the heated seats to operate.

B1: CHECK THE INOPERATIVE HEATED SEAT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT

Disconnect Inoperative Heated Seat Switch C320 (C321).

Ignition switch in position III.

Measure the voltage between the inoperative heated seat switch harness C320 pin1, circuit 15-HC15 (GN/YE) driver side (C321 pin 1, circuit 15-HC18 [GN/BK] passenger side) and pin 2, circuit 15S-HC17 (GN/RD) driver side (pin 2, circuit 15S-HC20 [GN/WH] passenger side).

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
VERIFY the customer concern.
No
B2: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE HEATED SEAT SWITCH

Measure the voltage between the inoperative heated seat switch C320 pin 1, circuit 15-HC15 (GN/YE) driver side (C321 pin 1, circuit 15-HC18 [GN/BK] passenger side) harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
No
REPAIR circuit 15-HC15 (GN/YE) or circuit 15-HC18 (GN/BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
B3: CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUIT FOR CONTINUITY
1
Ignition switch in position 0.

Connect Inoperative Heated Seat Switch C320 (C321).

Disconnect Inoperative Seat Backrest Heater Mat C365 (C335).

Measure the resistance between the inoperative seat backrest heater mat C365 pin 2, circuit 31-HC16A (BK) driver side (C335 pin 2, circuit 31-HC19A [BK] passenger side) harness side and ground.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
No
REPAIR circuit 31-HC16A (BK)/31-HC16 (BK) or 31-HC19A. TEST the system for normal operation.
B4: CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE HEATED SEAT BACKREST

Ignition switch in position III.

Ignition switch in position II.

Operate the inoperative heated seat switch.
  • Measure the voltage between the inoperative seat backrest heater mat harness C365 pin 1, circuit 15S-HC16 (GN/BU) driver side (C335 pin 1, circuit 15S-HC19 [GN/OG] passenger side) and pin 2, circuit 31-HC16A (BK) driver side (pin 2, circuit 31-HC19A [BK] passenger side).

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
INSTALL a new seat backrest heater mat. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
B5: CHECK THE INOPERATIVE BACKREST SUB-HARNESS FOR CONTINUITY

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect Inoperative Seat Cushion Heater Mat C364 (C334).

Measure the resistance between the inoperative seat cushion heater mat harness C364 pin 2, circuit 15S-HC16 (GN/BU) driver side (C334 pin 2, circuit 15S-HC19 [GN/OG] passenger side) and the inoperative seat backrest heater mat harness C365 pin 1, circuit 15S-HC16 (GN/BU) driver side (C335 pin 1, circuit 15S-HC19 (GN/OG] passenger side).

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
No
REPAIR circuit 15S-HC16 (GN/BU) or 15-HC19 (GN/OG). TEST the system for normal operation.
B6: CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE HEATED SEAT CUSHION
1
Connect Inoperative Seat Backrest Heater Mat C365 (C335).

Ignition switch in position III.

Ignition switch in position II.

Operate the inoperative heated seat switch.
  • Measure the voltage between the inoperative seat cushion heater mat harness C364 pin 1, circuit 15S-HC17A (GN/RD) driver side (C334 pin 1, circuit 15S-HC20A [GN/WH] passenger side) and pin 2, circuit 15S-HC16 (GN/BU) driver side (C334 pin 2, circuit 15S-HC19 [GN/OG] passenger side).

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
INSTALL a new seat cushion heater mat. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
B7: CHECK THE INOPERATIVE CUSHION HEATER SUB-HARNESS FOR CONTINUITY

Ignition switch in position 0.

Disconnect Inoperative Seat Switch C320 (C321).

Measure the resistance between the inoperative heated seat switch harness C320 pin 2, circuit 15S-HC17 (GN/RD) driver side (C321 pin 2, circuit 15S-HC20 [GN/WH] passenger side) and the inoperative seat cushion heater mat harness C364 pin 1, circuit 15S-HC17A (GN/RD) driver side (C334 pin 1, circuit 15S-HC20A [GN/WH] passenger side).

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
VERIFY the customer concern.
No
REPAIR circuit 15S-HC17 (GN/RD)/15S-HC17A (GN/RD) or 15S-HC20 (GN/WH)/15-HC20A (GN/WH). TEST the system for normal operation.
