LIGHT TRUCK:
1995-97 WINDSTAR
ISSUE:
Some vehicles may experience a "static" noise or ignition noise in the low end band of the radio. This may be caused by inadequate Radio Frequency
Interference (RFI) shielding of the ignition system.
ACTION:
Replace the insulator and cowl vent with revised parts which have added material for increased RFI shielding. The added shielding should reduce the
possibility of RFI interference. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Verify that the noise is only present in the lower end of the AM band and is being caused by the engine ignition system.
2.
Tune into a weak AM station below 800 kHz.
3.
Run the engine and vary the rpms. Ignition interference should cause a steady pop and static will change with engine rpms. Compare the noise with
the engine off and the key in the run position. If the interference is from the ignition system, the noise will not be present with the engine off.
4.
If the vehicle was built before 5/1/96, replace the radio with a new radio (refer to your local audio repair center). If the vehicle was built after this
date, the vehicle is equipped with the latest radio which has improved noise suppression capabilities. Verify the noise still exists.
