LIGHT TRUCK:
1995 WINDSTAR
ISSUE:
Some vehicles may experience a "static" noise or ignition noise in the low end AM band of the radio. This could be caused by inadequate RFI shielding
of the ignition system.
ACTION:
Replace the hood insulator and cowl vent with revised parts which have added material for increased RFI shielding. Refer to the following procedure for
service details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Verify that the noise is in only the lower end of the AM band and is being caused by the engine ignition system.
2.
Tune in a weak AM station below 800 KHZ.
3.
Run the engine and vary the RPMS. Ignition interference should cause a steady pop and the static will change with engine RPMS. Compare the
noise with the engine off and the key in the run position. If the interference is from the ignition system, the noise will not be present with the
engine off.
