BE OPEN
LIGHT TRUCK:
1995-96 WINDSTAR
ISSUE:
The fuel gauge may not read over 3/4 tank, may be slow to register over 3/4 tank and/or fuse "N" may be open on some vehicles. This may be caused by
the fuel pump bracket being bent due to fuel tank deformation which may result from a restriction in the canister purge system.
ACTION:
Perform diagnostics as outlined below and repair as required or replace the fuel tank sender and vapor canister. This should allow the fuel tank to vent
properly and reduce the possibility of the fuel tank sender distorting. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
If the customer concern is that the fuel gauge reads approximately 3/4 full after filling the tank, fuse "N" (fuel pump fuse) is open or the fuel tank is slow
to fill past 3/4 full, perform the following Service Procedures.
FUSE "N" OPEN
Isolate the reason for the fuse being open following standard diagnostic procedures to locate any possible shorts. Possible causes of the short could
include, but are not limited to the following:
^
Loose fuse connections in the engine compartment fuse panel.
^
Frayed wires behind right rear interior quarter trim panel near the inertia switch.
