MAINSHAFT BUSHING SEIZURE SYMPTOMS
Clutch slippage, transmission lockup in reverse.
PROBABLE CAUSE
Insufficient clearance between the transmission mainshaft bushing and the 4th clutch feed pipe can result in inadequate lubrication of the bushing. In
extreme cases the bushing will overheat and seize itself onto the clutch feed pipe. When this happens, some of the transmission fluid will be diverted,
resulting in clutch slippage in D3 and D4, or transmission lockup when the selector is shifted into reverse.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Remove the transmission from the car and completely disassemble it. Inspect all parts for damage, excessive wear, or contamination. Clean or replace
parts as necessary. In all cases, replace the mainshaft and end cover, including the 1st and 4th clutch feed pipes.
Refer to the 1983 Service Manual (Prelude or Accord), Chapter 15, for detailed instructions on transmission removal, disassembly, inspection,
reassembly and installation. The instructions on the next page describe only the procedure for fitting a new 4th clutch feed pipe in the end cover, which is
not covered in the service manual.
4th Clutch Feed Pipe

2.
