Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Mechanical: Testing and Inspection

1.

Ensure that vacuum hoses and solenoid harness are properly connected.

2.

Disconnect vacuum hose from throttle opener nipple, then connect suitable vacuum pump to nipple.

3.

Connect tachometer to engine following tool manufacturer's instructions.

4.

Start engine and allow to idle.

5.

Apply approximately 12 inches Hg vacuum to throttle opener. Engine speed should increase. If speed fails to increase, replace throttle opener.

6.

To test throttle opener control solenoid, proceed as follows:

a. With ignition switch Off, disconnect electrical connector from control solenoid.
b. Using suitable ohmmeter, check resistance of solenoid.
c. Resistance should be approximately 40 ohms. If resistance value is not as specified, replace solenoid.
