On Scoupe models, do not remove proportioning valves from master cylinder unless master cylinder replacement is necessary.
1.
Remove reservoir cap, drain brake fluid into a suitable container, then remove reservoir from master cylinder, Fig. 3.
2.
On 1989 Excel, remove piston stopper bolt while depressing piston with a blunt tool. If necessary, secure master cylinder in a suitable soft
jawed vise.
3.
On all models, remove snap ring while depressing piston with a blunt tool. If necessary, secure master cylinder in a suitable soft jawed vise.
4.
On except Sonata, remove primary and secondary pistons from master cylinder body. Do not disassemble primary and secondary pistons.
5.
On Sonata, remove primary piston assembly from master cylinder body, depress secondary piston completely and remove piston stopper from
secondary reservoir bore, then remove secondary piston assembly from master cylinder body. Do not disassemble primary and secondary
pistons.
6.
On all models, inspect all components for rust, wear or damage and repair or replace as necessary. Apply brake fluid to all components prior to
reassembly.
7.
Reverse procedure to assemble.

These master cylinders cannot be serviced, however, the reservoir and proportioning valves may be replaced. Remove reservoir by first removing
retaining pin, Fig. 5.
