ENGINE KNOCKING NOISE ON ACCELERATION
APPLIED MODEL:
1990-93 Q45 (G50)
APPLIED VIN:
JNKNG01CXPM220206
SERVICE INFORMATION:
Some Q45's may exhibit a knocking type noise (similar to spark knock) from the engine compartment during moderate to hard acceleration. Such a noise
is described as being more apparent when the engine is cold and the ambient temperature is low.
In most cases, the source of this noise, is the ASCD actuator assembly. The noise travels along the ASCD cable which is connected to a bracket at the
bulkhead. This provides a path for the noise to travel and become noticeable inside the vehicle (usually at the center vent location) [Figure 1].
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
1.
Verify the noise incident by driving the vehicle when the engine is fully cold.
