SERVICE INFORMATION
If an owner of a 1991-93 Q45 vehicle complains of a harsh engagement or "shock" when the torque converter locks up (at about 42-45 mph in D4), the
following procedures should be followed.
A new A/T control module is available which should reduce the severity of the lock-up engagement shock. This new module should be used for customer
complaint of lock-up shock only. It is not intended as a general replacement of existing A/T control module part numbers. Please refer to Technical
Bulletin ITB92-038 for part numbers to use during automatic transmission replacements.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Check condition and fill level of transmission fluid (ATF). If the fluid level is outside the normal range on the dipstick, correct the fluid level and
test drive the vehicle. If the fluid smells burned, follow Service Manual procedures to repair.
2.
If the fluid level and condition check OK, use CONSULT to retrieve any stored trouble codes in Self-Diagnosis - repair as necessary and test
drive.
If steps 1 and 2 don't resolve the incident, proceed to step 3.
3.
Using CONSULT, verify the A/T control module part number for the vehicle and install the proper countermeasure A/T control module indicated
below.
