After installing the redesigned cable, if the release lever effort is still excessive, it may be necessary to readjust the tail gate striker by the use of shims.
When installing the shim or shims, be sure no leaks develop around the tail gate.

To adjust the striker plate, remove the plate, add (or delete) shims, then reinstall striker using the original hardware.

The following illustration indicates the location of the striker shims.
