Blower Motor: Service and Repair

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Remove steering wheel.

3.

Remove instrument panel.

4.

Remove evaporator to compressor and receiver tank attaching flare nuts.

5.

Disconnect vacuum hose at evaporator assembly.

6.

Disconnect evaporator relay electrical connectors.

7.

On models with diesel engines disconnect heater hoses at heater control unit.

8.

Disconnect air ducts from heater control unit.

9.

Disconnect heater unit relay electrical connectors.

10.

Remove heater unit attaching nuts.

11.

Remove heater unit assembly.

12.

Disconnect electrical connectors and vacuum hose at blower unit.

13.

Remove blower unit attaching nuts and the blower unit.

14.

Separate blower unit case halves.

15.

Remove blower motor assembly.

16.

Separate blower motor from assembly.

17.

Reverse procedure to install.

18.

Adjust water valve link rod as follows:

a. Set air mix door in stop position in counterclockwise direction.
b. Move water valve lever to stop position in clockwise direction.
c. Attach link rod to swivel joint with screw.

19.

Install mode and temperature cables as follows:

a. Attach control assembly to instrument panel.
b. Connect cable with mode selector lever and heater assembly lever set in OFF position, then secure outer tube with cable clip.
c. Connect cable with temperature lever and heater lever set in HOT position and secure outer tube with cable clip.
d. Check all doors and water valve. If doors or valve do not close properly, loosen cable clamp screw at control and adjust cable length as

necessary.

20.

Ensure that defroster door is in defroster position when control lever is moved to DEF and HEAT positions.

21.

Check heat door by ensuring that air is directed to floor outlets in HEAT and BI-LEVEL positions.

22.

Check vent door by ensuring that air is directed out the center and side outlets in VENT and BI-LEVEL positions.

23.

Check air mix door by ensuring that hot air is delivered and the water valve is fully open with temperature control lever in HOT position, or water
valve is fully closed when temperature control lever is in COLD position.
