Install and connect the battery.

Install the turbocharger hoses.

Install and connect the air cleaner and hoses.
77.
Raise the vehicle.
78.
Connect the lower radiator hose and install the radiator retaining "E" clip.
79.
Install the splash shield to the oil pan.
80.
Install the skid plate, if equipped.
81.
Lower the vehicle.
82.
Fill the engine with coolant.
83.
Fill the power steering reservoir.
84.
Fill the engine with engine oil.
85.
Start the engine and check for leaks.
86.
Install the hood.
D. Glow Plug Relay Cover Installation Procedure
1.
Locate the two adjoining relays mounted on the left (driver's side) inner front fender, over the wheelhouse.
Note:
Do not remove the relays or connectors. The cover is to be installed with all current components in place.
2.
Slide the supplied rubber cover over the relays and connectors.

The cutout side of the cover should be outboard, flush against the fender surface and completely covering the connectors.

Top of cover should be flush with top of relays.
3.
Insert the supplied tie strap between cover and fender, and between the clips. Work the tie strap through until it extends out from the harness.
Secure cover with tie strap and trim off excess strap.

SAFETY RECALL -- BRAKE SYSTEM VACUUM TANK DAMAGE
Dear Jeep Vehicle Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Chrysler Motors has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1985, 1986 and 1987 Jeep Cherokee, Wagoneer and
Comanche vehicles equipped with the 2.1 Liter Turbo Diesel engine. Brake system vacuum tanks on these vehicles may develop leaks due to bumper
impact. Such leakage can cause a loss of power brake assist and an increase in stopping distance. In some cases this could result in a crash without prior
warning.
Your vehicle, whose Vehicle Identification Number is shown on the enclosed form, is one of the affected vehicles. For this reason we ask that you
arrange for service to correct the condition without delay. The repairs described below will be provided to you without charge.
At the time of service, the brake system defect will be corrected by installing two new type brake vacuum tanks which are more capable of withstanding
bumper impact.
In addition, based on the model year of the vehicle being serviced, a further repair will also be provided to help ensure your continued satisfaction with
your Jeep vehicle:

On 1985 and 1986 models, the front suspension track bar attaching brackets will be replaced to prevent possible cracking of the sill at the bracket
attachments. If cracking of the sill has already occurred, it will be repaired as necessary.

On 1987 models, a cover will be installed over the engine glow plug relay to prevent possible electrical shorting due to water entry.
