Safety Recall # 305T - Anti-lock Brake System and Front Brake Hoses
Models:
1989 and 1990 Model Year XJ - Jeep Cherokee and Wagoneer - Equipped With Anti-lock Brake System
Proper functioning of the anti-lock brake system (ABS) on the listed model vehicles may be impaired by two contamination conditions:

The boost pump inlet filter could become restricted due to formation of a precipitate in the brake fluid.
^
In addition, the brake master cylinder boost valve snap ring may fail due to stress corrosion.
On the same vehicles, the front brake hoses may rub against the front tires due to improper hose routing.
To correct these conditions, the ABS system low pressure hose must be replaced, the ABS actuator assembly must be rebuilt and the front brake hoses
must be inspected to ensure that they are routed properly.
Important:
If any of the involved vehicles are still in dealer stock, be sure to complete the service on these vehicles before retail delivery.
Parts will be supplied for this recall in accordance with the newly announced Recall Parts Pricing policy, as explained in the Parts section of this letter.
Also, for this recall, owner notifications will be mailed in two or more stages as sufficient parts for each stage are received. The first stage, to be mailed
in February, will apply to owners of 1989 Model Year vehicles. Notifications will be mailed subsequently for 1990 models.

Vehicle List
Each dealer to whom involved vehicles were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same location) will receive a vehicle list with this letter arranged in
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) sequence. Owners known to Chrysler are also listed. The lists are for dealer reference in arranging for service of
involved vehicles.
Each Jeep/Eagle dealer without a Vehicle List will receive an information copy of this letter by Compak Mail for use in performing the service on
involved vehicles upon request.
Parts and Owner Notification

Important:
For this recall, parts will be shipped and billed to involved dealers inn accordance with the newly announced Recall Parts Pricing policy.
A partial quantity of ABS service parts packages will be distributed initially to all involved dealers. As this quantity will be only a portion of the total
parts requirement, dealers must order additional ABS service parts packages as needed to support customer demand.

ABS Service Parts Packages, PN C3940409, are now being shipped and billed to all involved dealers for service of affected vehicles. Each dealer
to whom vehicles in the recall were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same location) will receive enough parts packages to service 25 % of
these vehicles.
Any additional parts must be ordered from Parts Depots as needed.
