No. 319T

To:
All Jeep/Eagle Dealers
Subject:
Safety Recall # 319T - Anti-lock Brake System High Pressure Hose
Models:
1990 Model Year XJ-Body (Jeep Cherokee and Wagoneer) Vehicles Equipped With Anti-lock Brake System - Vehicles Built From
March 16, 1990 to End of Model Year
A Recall # 319T supplement will be issued in the near future covering some early-built 1991 model year XJ-Body vehicles for
replacement of the ABS high pressure hose. Both the repair procedure and parts package will be different for the 1991 models.
This Tsb has been supplemented by Tsb 319T dated 10/01/91.
The anti-lock brake system (ABS) high pressure hose on listed vehicles may blow off at the crimped end fitting due to improper fitting attachment. This
will result in loss of hydraulic assist for the brake system and possible fire in the engine compartment from released brake fluid. To correct this
condition, the high pressure brake hose must be replaced.
Each involved 1990 vehicle requires replacement of both the anti-lock brake system (ABS) high pressure hose - Recall # 319T - and service for ABS
Recall # 305T. Service for both recalls should be completed during one appointment.
Details of the service action for this recall (# 319T) are explained in the following sections. (For Recall # 305T, see dealer recall notification letter #
305T of February, 1991.)
Note:
No videotape of the service procedure will be provided for Recall # 319T. Refer to the Recall # 305T videotape (distributed March, 1991) for
ABS system and high pressure hose access procedures.
Vehicle List, Parts, and Owner's Information
Vehicle List
Each dealer to whom involved vehicles were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same location) will receive a vehicle list with this letter arranged in
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) sequence. Owners known to Chrysler are already listed. The lists are for dealer reference in arranging for service of
involved vehicles.
Each Jeep/Eagle dealer without a Vehicle List will receive an information copy of this letter by Compak Mail for use in performing the service on
involved vehicles upon request.
Parts
Important:
A quantity of high pressure hose packages will be distributed initially and billed to all involved dealers. This quantity will cover a portion
of the total vehicles involved. Additional parts may be ordered as needed to support customer demand.
Each dealer to whom 1990 model year vehicles in the recall were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same location) will receive enough 1990 model
high pressure hose parts packages, Recall PN C3940434, to service 50% of those vehicles.
Also included in each package is an instruction summary for convenient reference by the servicing technician.
Note:
A different parts package will be required for 1991 models, to be covered in a supplement to this recall.
Owner Notification and Service Scheduling
All involved 1990 vehicle owners known to Chrysler are being notified of the combined Recall # 319T and Recall # 305T service requirements by first
class mail. Owners are requested to schedule appointments for the service with their dealers at the earliest possible date. A copy of the owner notification
letter is attached.
Enclosed with each owner notification are two Owner Recall Notification Forms -- one for Recall # 319T and one for Recall # 305T. The involved
vehicle and recalls are identified on the forms for owner or dealer reference as needed.
