Using lockplate compressor tool, compress lockplate and remove steering shaft retaining snap rin.

Remove compressor tool and discard the snap ring.
5.
Remove lockplate, canceling cam, upper bearing preload spring and thrust washer from the steering shaft.
6.
Remove hazard warning switch knob.
7.
Remove the turn signal/wiper/cruise control lever by pulling straight out from column.
8.
Disconnect turn signal electrical connector, then switch retaining screws and switch.
9.
Remove the wiper switch wire harness and other harnesses in the column.

Turn key to the On position, then using suitable tool, remove key warning buzzer switch and contacts as an assembly. Ensure care is taken not to
allow contacts to fall into steering column during removal.
11.
Remove key cylinder retaining screw, then the cylinder.
12.
Remove the ignition switch and dimmer switch from lower end of column.

On models with column shift, proceed as follows:
a.
Remove gear selector upper pivot pin, then the selector.
b.
Remove upper bearing thrust washer.
c.
Remove ignition lock cylinder housing attaching screws, then the housing from the steering column jacket.
d.
Remove the thrust cap from ignition lock cylinder housing.
e.
Remove rack preload spring, then the shaft lock bolt and spring.
f.
Remove shift lever detent plate from housing.
