Recommended Towing Procedure: Rear Driveshaft Installed
Towing the Sportage with the Rear Driveshaft installed and all four wheels on the ground. This option is not recommended, however, it is possible if the
following "Towing Parameters" are observed.
Notice:
If a single continuous towing distance will exceed 400 miles, have the rear drive shaft removed by an authorized Kia dealer or other competent repair
shop.
Towing Parameters for Rear Driveshaft Installed:

Follow "General Precautions" information shown in this bulletin.

The Front Auto Locking Hubs must be unlocked. To ensure that the Front Auto Locking Hubs are unlocked, place the Transfer Case in the "2H"
position and back the vehicle up approximately 5 feet (2 meters).

Place the transmission Shift Lever in the N" position.
^
Place the Transfer Case Shift Lever in the "2H" position.
^
Release the Parking Brake.
^
Place the Ignition Switch in the "ACC" position (steering wheel unlocked).
^
Observe all posted speed limits.
^
Towing speed not to exceed 55 mph.
^
Distance not to exceed 400 miles at one time (see "Notice" below).
Notice:
After towing the Sportage 400 miles, stop, then start the Sportage engine and allow it to idle for a few minutes. This procedure will ensure that the
Transmission is sufficiently lubricated. Failure to observe this "Notice" could result in internal damage to the transmission.
Four Wheel Drive (4WD) Manual Transmission, Equipped with Manual Locking Hubs
General Precautions:

Follow all State and local laws/regulations applicable to vehicle towing.

Never tow Sportage from the rear (backwards) with all four tires in contact with the road surface.

Do not use a towing dolly.
Recommended Towing Procedures:

Follow "General Precautions" information provided above.
^
Place the Transmission Shift Lever in the "N" position.
^
Place the Transfer Case Shift Lever in the "N" position.
^
Release the Parking Brake.
^
Place the Ignition Switch in the "ACC" position (steering wheel unlocked).

Place both (left and right) Manual Locking Hub Levers in the "FREE" position.
^
Observe all posted speed limits.
^
Towing speed not to exceed 55 mph.
