CONDITION
Some Sportage owners have reported that their vehicles have a rough idle and/or stalling at idle condition. Typically, this condition occurs more often
during cold engine operation.
CAUSE
There can be several causes for a condition like this so be sure to troubleshoot thoroughly. One of the more common causes on the Sportage is a
blocked or otherwise restricted Idle Air Control (IAC) passage in the air intake pipe assembly. This passage allows air to pass from the intake pipe,
through the IAC valve, to bypass the throttle plates in the throttle body. If this passage becomes blocked or restricted, the engine will not idle properly.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1. Remove the IAC valve.
2. Using a flashlight, inspect the lower IAC passage in the air intake pipe assembly for blockage or restrictions.
