Recall Campaign: Sportage Engine Control Module (ECM) Replacement
This Bulletin provides information related to a recall for the 1997 Sportage Engine Control Module (ECM).
Some Sportage models produced prior to 2/19/97 may have an internal ECM software error that could affect the "Readiness" function for Evaporative
Emissions System leak detection. While this possible software error only affects the Readiness function for Evaporative Emissions System leak detection
and does not affect any other ECM function, it could result in a failure to comply with On-Board Diagnostics-II (OBD-II) requirements.
To correct this situation, Kia is recalling all affected 1997 Sportage models to inspect and, if necessary, replace the ECM.
